www.creativeguitarstudio.com Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question: My question has to do with a concept I have recently come across called Modal Interchange. I think it has to do with a major scale and a minor scales notes or they’re chords. I just have not been able to find anything online explaining this in a way that I can clearly understand. There is some part of this principle that has to do with borrowing chord tones from modes, but I just don’t get this. Can you please help! – Donnie, Milwaukee, WI. Modal interchange has to do with keys running off of parallel roots. So, for example; Lets say we were in the key of G Major. And, after playing the root chord of G ma7, I borrowed a chord out of G Minor and played that borrowed chord next. For our discussion lets use G Minors 6th step chord of ebma7. This process is the idea of modal Interchange. You can do this as I just did, going major key borrowing from Minor, or vice versa. Lesson excerpts from my Hall and Oates “double feature” DVD guitar lesson featuring the songs One on One AND Sara Smile. Over 90 minutes long, I show every move in closeup, check it out! In fact, check out all my dvds: Ordering info – I am running a one person operation, I prepare the dvds one at a time (PAL or NTSC format, depending on the country) and there are no ordering forms. Ordering dvds is done “old school” by contacting me directly at jake.reichbart@gmail.com or through this youtube channel and telling me what you’d like to order. I will then reply with a calculation of the total amount due (dvds plus s&h). Most people prefer Paypal for payment but checks and money orders work too. The dvds cost either 0 or and here is how it works: My dvds are custom made, on the song or topic of your choice (make sure to check out my performances of the tunes below right here on youtube, and feel free to choose anything else). The dvds include closeups and show every single move I make and have references to many other ideas that I use in solo guitar in general. These made to order dvds cost 0 (plus s&h), which, I must say, is not really profitable in itself, as by the time all the recording, editing and packaging/mailing is done, we’re talking more than a whole day’s worth of work, sometimes more. HOWEVER, once a DVD is made, it goes into the “already made” DVD category and then it is available to everyone else for only . I have quite a few such titles made (that …
