Here I demonstrate numerous completely improvised bass playing techniques and concepts. You can learn to master these and more by subscribing to my step-by-step online bass course at www.creativebasslessons.com This video is in response to many of my You Tube subscribers asking for a demo of me actually playing and not “just” teaching bass.

Learn from others and ultimately you will be yourself.
All techniques take a while to master. I usually take about 3 months to “master” something new. Perseverance is the key.
You may need to get a few lessons and guidance from a good bass teacher.
Kind regards,
George

This is probably because you are leaving your thumb on the string for too long – it MUST bounce off immediately!
If you have not already don so, take a look at my Beginner Slap Bass video on You Tube.

also whenever i slap a note it doesnt make a sound
November 17th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
i hav been playing bass for 1 and a half months now, but im not sure whether to be more like rob trujilo, mostly no slapping or like flea, mostly slapping.
in my opinion slapping sounds rreally cool, but is really hard to get the hang of, but finger bass is way easier
what do you recommend?
and how long do you think it takes to master lots of techniques?
also i cant seem to play songs fast without messing them up!

lol thats always so frustrating when u feel ur strap slip off
November 17th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Yes, I think you need more concentration when slapping on a 5, especially when the strings have narrow spacing.

wow, was that the john entwistle band you saw? or the who?
November 17th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
I saw John in concert about 10-12 years ago and found him to be the most slammin’ on-the-money bass player I have ever witnessed.
This was a complete surprise to me (and just showed me that I had never really listened properly to his playing).
He was employing a rarely used and unusual right-hand technique.
To this day I am still stunned!

Thanks for your comments and request.
Eventually I will add more of me just playing, but first there is so much more to do in relation to “teaching” content.

November 17th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Thank you. It was fun stringing together a few concepts and techniques “on the fly”. One of the most enjoyable parts of music is playing!

Hello and thanks for your observations.
I think in this video I am using the amp you see in the background, an Eden WT500 Highwayman with an Eden 210 XLT cab.
Yes, I have experience with Behringer. Although the first impression is quite good, in my opinion it is difficult (maybe impossible?) to get a GREAT sound.
I guess you get what you pay for.
